The University of Iowa is located in Iowa City, Iowa, a quiet, midwestern community of 62,000 people. Iowa City offers all of the amenities of a modern urban center, while maintaining a friendly, small-town atmosphere. It is an academically oriented and student-friendly community. It is a four- to six-hour drive to the major urban centers of Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis and Kansas City.
The Iowa Intensive English Program (IIEP) provides international students with intensive English instruction and a cultural, social and academic introduction to the U.S. It focuses its training on improving students grammar, writing, reading, listening comprehension, pronunciation and conversation skills. The curriculum consists of 20 hours of instruction per week. Small class size allows instructors to give students individual attention throughout the program.
Students arrange their own housing. Most students stay in dormitories on campus or find apartments off campus. There is no homestay program.
