Our English language school offers courses for junior students looking to improve their English during the summer months. Learning English as a second language at our school is both fun and rewarding.
The South of Ireland language centre, was established in 1969 and its courses are organised at the Cork Institute of Technology. As a family run business, we have nearly 50 years of experience in providing quality English language courses to students of all nationalities.
The activities at our school are designed to immerse students in all aspects of our unique Irish culture.
Students stay with Irish families in the Bishopstown and Ballincollig areas and are, therefore, close to the school. By living with Irish families, students are given an insight into Irish family life and are stimulated into speaking English in the home. If students have particular preferences then we try to match these preferences as best we can with our resources. Most houses in the area are either semi-detached or detached. All of the accommodation is located either within walking distance of the school or within a 10 minute bus journey from the school.
The South of Ireland Language Centre has organised summer courses for teenagers for nearly 50 years. Our programmes are exciting with action packed activity programmes. Activities are organised in the afternoons and evening with full day tours on Saturdays. Many of our students repeat year on year.
The main aim of the courses is to develop students’ confidence in spoken English. Teachers focus on project work, drama and activity based learning. Our main centre is located in Bishopstown, a beautiful suburb of Cork City. All of our activities are supervised by professional trainers.
Classes take place in the Cork Institute of Technology. The college is located in the Western suburbs of Cork city within walking distance of the accommodation used by most of our students. In terms of transport, it is very well serviced with three separate bus routes converging on the college. During the winter months, this school is a third level college, with over 17,000 Irish students.
Cork is the perfect city for a short stay. The city centre is contained, easy to navigate and yet with plenty of fascinating sites to explore. We can put together a programme of fun in-house activities, cultural excursions, and exciting day-trips.
The South of Ireland Language Centre Mini-Stay Programme is offered from September to June. Groups of young learners and school groups participate in a tailor made programme of lessons and activities.
Students stay exclusively with Irish host families. This cultural immersion is ideal for improving the student’s English and for learning more about indigenous Irish culture. Language skills are developed in a natural way within the renowned hospitality of the Irish home. A customised syllabus can be taught or groups can choose general English classes.
An academic semester or year in Ireland provides students with a fantastic opportunity to gain confidence in using another language. Furthermore, studying abroad helps the student’s personal development and increases cultural knowledge.
