The Center for ESL is a part of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Lexington is in a beautiful part of central Kentucky and is medium sized (250,000) cosmopolitan city with many international students and companies. Lexington enjoys four seasons with moderate weather. It is one hour south of Cincinnati, Ohio. Students should arrive at Lexington Bluegrass Airport.
The Center for ESL at the University of Kentucky offers an Intensive English Language Program for international students and other non-native English speakers.
The program has 20 hours of instruction per week, with classes in Listening/Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Grammar. There are five levels of proficiency. Students are tested in English after arrival and placed into the appropriate level. There is a required orientation program for new students.
We suggest that international students live in the residence halls on campus, at least for their first semester. We have many residence halls, but our preference is for Smith Hall, an international dormitory with American and international students together. Lots of fun and good practice for English!
