Rochester Institute of Technology is located in the town of Henrietta, a suburb of Rochester. It is a safe and pleasant place to live. Rochester, the home of Kodak and Xerox corporations, is located in the western part of New York state, approximately 6 hours by car (585 km) from New York City and 2.5 hours from Toronto, Canada (300 km) and 1.5 hours from Niagara Falls. The area offers beautiful parks and numerous opportunities for recreational activities including hiking, boating, golfing, swimming, camping, fishing and skiing.
The 11-week Intensive English Program provides orientation, 20 hours/week classroom instruction, and work in the language lab. Elective classes are offered in pronunciation, TOEFL preparation, academic English, presentation skills, business communication, computer word processing, among others. Students study at beginning, intermediate or advanced levels depending on their ability. Students who score high enough on English language tests may be permitted to take 1 or 2 academic courses for credit at the university in conjunction with English.
We arrange on-campus housing for our students upon request. Most students enjoy living in the residence halls, usually with an American roommate; older students and students with families generally live in RIT-owned apartments.
