Classes meet Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 am until 2:00 pm. Evening classes are Mondays through Fridays, 6:30 pm until 10:00 pm. Full-time and part-time enrollment available.
Levels: 1 (beginning), 2 (intermediate), 3 (high intermediate), 4 (advanced), and 5 (high advanced)
Students in this intensive program develop balanced proficiency in the four major communicative skills—listening, reading, speaking, and writing—by thoroughly examining a common theme of topical importance from educational, political, and environmental perspectives during the sixteen-week per level sessions.
The program offers students opportunities to use English in a wide variety of academic contexts: reading contemporary literature and journalism, including novels and data from several media sources; completing group and individual oral assignments that analyze and comment on many types of spoken and written English; writing research papers that follow the process method and appropriately incorporate Internet and print resources; and listening to lectures by FLI faculty and engaging them in formal question-and-answer sessions.
Each level lasts 16 weeks. For students to advance, he or she must meet the required attendance and referral from the instructor. If the student does not meet the expected requirements, he or she is expected to repeat the level.
