The English Language Institute at Sam Houston State University provides students with ESL courses designed for academic success. The English Language Institute (ELI) of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, is a part of the Office of International Programs. The ELI provides an effective learning program where international students can improve their English language proficiencies in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The program is divided into two 8 week sessions per term and one 8 week session in the summer.
Upon arrival, each student is placed into one of four levels based on the results of the Placement Test. •Level 1 - High Beginning •Level 2 - Intermediate •Level 3 - High Intermediate •Level 4 - Advanced
Core Curriculum ELI students must maintain 20 classroom contact hours of core curriculum classes per week in their level. Core classes are: •Listening & Speaking: •Writing •Guided Research •Conversation Practice •Foundations of English for Academic Purpose
