Lewis & Clark is located in a suburban neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, however the city is only a short 10-minute drive. Known as the "City of Roses,†Portland combines lively arts, active sports, and ethnic and cultural diversity with scenic beauty and a temperate climate. The campus is in a quiet, safe, and beautiful residential area, with easy access to downtown Portland. The Cascade Mountains, Pacific Ocean beaches, and the Columbia River Gorge are an easy drive from Portland.
Academic English Studies (AES) offers low-intermediate through advanced English classes and cultural preparation, including transition-level courses for those entering the undergraduate program. Some AES students may audit undergraduate classes. AES has 16 week fall and winter semesters and an intensive summer semester of 12 weeks and a short six-week session. Students are enrolled in classes for 20 hours per week; they also take part in computer, reading, and multi-media lab activities.
About 1,800 undergraduate and 50 AES students live on campus, taking advantage of the excellent facilities and opportunities to meet other students. The residence halls offer a variety of living arrangements. Most international students room with Americans during the academic year.
