The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) offers full-time and part-time English Language, Business English and American Culture instruction to international students and faculty, foreign professionals, and members of the Connecticut community. At the IELP, we care about you and are dedicated to ensuring that you have a positive experience. Each session's courses are tailored to meet the needs of the students enrolled at that time. Our classes are small, so our teachers get to know you and offer you support and encouragement. Activities arranged by the IELP offer you the opportunity to meet and interact with American students and local culture. The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) offers instruction in English language and American culture to international students wishing to improve their English skills. Classes are offered at six levels. Regular programs are eight weeks long and offered four times per year. Each 8-week program is divided into two courses: Listening/Speaking/Pronunciation (10 hours per week, mornings) and Reading/Writing/Grammar (10 hours per week, afternoons).

Housed in the Center for International Education (CIE), IELP provides services such as airport pick-up, assistance with housing, orientation to the campus and community, academic advising, and personal and cross-cultural support services. The CIE provides support with all immigration matters. IELP students receive CCSU ID cards and have access to all campus facilities, including the library, computer labs (with free e-mail and internet access), the Language Lab, the Writing Center, athletic facilities (tennis, swimming, weight room, basketball, aerobics, dance classes, etc.), student center entertainment (films, comedians, musicians, presentations), university events, and transportation.
In addition to classes, IELP offcers tutoring, counseling and advising, conversation partners, assistance with the university application process, part-time enrollment in college credit courses (advanced-level Transition students), and conditional admission to some graduate programs. Each session, IELP organizes field trips for students to visit some of New England’s most remarkable attractions. Typical trips include viewing the autumn leaves in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts; visiting museums and historical sites in New York City; seeing cultural attractions in Boston, Massachusetts; exploring the fabulous Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Connecticut; cycling on Block Island, Rhode Island; touring majestic 19th-century mansions in Newport, Rhode Island. In addition, IELP often arranges social outings for students. Favorite pastimes include bowling, river rafting, minor-league baseball games, and beach excursions.
